EMPLOYEE GRIEVANCES
THE PURPOSE OF THIS GENERAL ORDE R IS TO DESIGNATE AUTHORITY AND DEFINE THE FORMAL GRIEVANCE HANDLING
PROCESS WITH THIS DEPARTMENT .
I. GENERAL
A GRIEVANCE IS DEFINED AS A DISAGREEMENT INVOLVING THE INTERPRE TATION, APPLICATION OR ENFORCEMENT
OF THE EXPRESS TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE COUNTY AND RE COGNIZED EMPLOYEE
ORGANIZATIONS . HEARING AND TIME REQUIREMENTS VARY ; SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS ARE DEFINED WITHIN
INDIVIDUAL AGREEMENTS .
II. GRIEVANCE DESIGNEES
A. INFORMAL EMPLOYEE GRIEVANCES S HALL BE HEARD BY THE GRIEVANT 'S SUPERVISOR
B. STEP 1 DESIGNEES TO HEAR FORMAL EMPLOYEE GRIEVANCES SHALL BE THE GRIE VANT'S DIVISION
COMMANDER OR THE DEPARTMENTAL EMPLOYEE RELATIONS OFFICER .
C. FORMAL GRIEVANCES AT STEP 2 APPEAL SHALL BE HEARD BY TH E SHERIFF OR HIS DESIGNEE .
III. PROCEDURES
A. COMMANDERS RECEIVING AN EMPLOYEE GR IEVANCE SHALL PROMPTLY FORWA RD A COPY TO THE
DEPARTMENTAL EMPLOYEE RELATIONS OFFICER .
B. THE EMPLOYEE RELATIONS OFFICER S HALL OBTAIN A COUNTY GRIEVANCE NUMBER AND PROVIDE IT TO
THE EFFECTED COMMANDER .
C. COMMANDERS SHALL PROMPTLY FORWARD A COPY OF THEIR STEP 1 DECISION TO THE EMPLOYEE
RELATIONS OFFICER FOR FILE .
D. THE DEPARTMENTAL EMPLOYEE RELAT IONS OFFICER SHALL MAINTAIN A GR IEVANCE FILE , SHALL
ASSIST COMMANDERS AND OTHERS AS APPROPRIATE , AND SHALL PROVIDE COPIES OF FORMAL
