ISSUANCE AND CARE OF HEADSETS
The purpose of this order is to e stablish the manner in which h eadsets are issued and
maintained by Communications Bureau personnel. I. Issuance
A. The Communications Bureau admi nistrative supervisor or the w atch
supervisor will issue new heads ets to assigned personnel.
B. The headsets used currently:
1. Unex Protocol Binaural T-20
2. Unex Protoc ol Monaural T-10
3. Plantronics Encore Binaural H 101N for use with the VESTA pho ne
system.
4. Plantronics Encore Monaural H 91N for use with the VESTA phon e
system.
C. Telephone handsets are availabl e and will be used for docume nted
medical reasons only. Visitors to the Communications Bureau may be
temporarily issued either a telephone handset or a headset.
D. Telephone amplifiers are posit ioned at each station in Commu nications.
The amplifiers are to remain a t these stations and are not to b e removed
except for maintenance or replacement.
II. Maintenance
A. Proper maintenance is v ital to headset longevity.
B. Employees must take proper c are when storing the headset upo n
completion of their shift. Car e will be taken not to throw the headsets or to
close the cords or mouth wands in the locker doors. When not in use, the
headset will be kept in the bag in which it was issued.
C. The amplifier’s coiled cords are designed to be flexible and extendable;
however, the cords should never be pulled tight.

III. Wearing the Headset
A. Communications personnel are required to use their headsets at all times
while on the telephone or when oper ating the radio. Due to the variety of
functions of their jobs, superviso rs are exempt from wearing a headset.
IV. Replacement
A. Replacement headsets and com ponent parts will be issued to p ersonnel
by the Communications administrat ive supervisor or the watch su pervisor.
The defective headset will be giv en to the administrative super visor along
with a completed “Request fo r Headset Repair” form.
