RESERVE DEPUTIES
1. The applicant shall complete an information sheet.
2. Call Records for a prior fingerprint number or any outstandi ng warrants.
3. Use the prior fingerprint num ber, if available. If not, a ne w number will be issued
by Records personnel. Take a photograph and one set of fingerpr ints to send to
the Department of Justice.
4. Initial and type a 3” x 5” i ndex card for the Records master name index file.
Complete the fingerprint card and place it in the pending DOJ b asket until a
warrant has been received from the Administrative Division for the required
record check fee for the State of California.
5. Complete an IDC requesting pay ment of the fingerprint fee an d send it to the
Technical Services division commander for signature. When signe d, forward the
request to the Administrative Division.
6. When a check is issued from the Administrative Division atta ch it to the
completed fingerprint card(s) and send the documents to the Dep artment of
Justice for processing.
7. A notice approxim ately one month prior to graduation will be received from the
Reserve Office with the candi dates’ names and fingerprint numbe rs. From this
list out-cards are prepared and tak en to Records so the folders can be pulled.
When the folders are received by the ID Section, the salmon-col ored ID cards
are typed and a photograph pulled fr om the folder and set aside for later
placement on an ID card.
Note : Most reserve candidates will si gn their ID cards and the Oath of Office
prior to graduation from the Ac ademy. However, there are some e xceptions to
this procedure. In such a case, c heck the application for a sig nature or initials by
the chief of Staff Services.
8. The ID cards are taken to the Reserve Office to obtain the c andidates’
signatures. When the ID cards are returned with the proper sign atures, the
photos are placed on each card and laminated. These cards are r eturned to the
Reserve Office to be distributed.

9. When the Oaths of Office are r eceived, a 3” x 5” index card is typed for the ID
Reserve card file. The Oaths are taken to the Sheriff’s office for signature and
forwarded to the County Clerk’s office for recording.
