REMEDIAL TESTING
The purpose of this order is to define the policy and procedure s pertaining to the
remediation of a fa iled academy “Knowledge Domain” test or a “M anipulative
Performance Objective” test. I. Academic Testing
Each recruit failing to meet the mi nimum required proficiency l evel for either a
written academic test or a “Manipul ative Performance Objective” shall be given
the opportunity to remediate. The following guidelines shall ap ply to all
remediation.
A. The POSTRAC Knowledge Domain tests requi re a minimum proficiency
level of 80%. Failing to obtain a score of 80% on a Knowledge D omain
test will count as a test failure.
B. Recruits are allowed to fail five POSTRAC Knowledge Domain tests. The
sixth test failure may result i n dismissal from the academy.
C. Each failed Knowledge Doma in test will be remediated, genera lly within
one week of the original test dat e. The remedial test will be s imilar but not
identical to the original test. T he remedial test will cover al l performance
objectives for the spec ified Knowledge Domain.
D. A minimum proficiency level of 80% must be obtained on the r emedial
test.
E. Failure to obtain a profici ency level of 80% on any one reme dial test may
result in dismissal from the academy.
II. “Manipulative Performance Objectives”
A. Minimum proficiency levels w ill be set for each performance objective and
explained to each recruit at the b eginning of each instructiona l block.
B. Manipulative Performance Obje ctives will be tested on a pass /fail basis.
Letter grades; i.e., “A”,”B”,”C” ,”D”,”F” may be assigned to ass ist the recruit
in evaluating his/her individual level of performance. Generall y, letter
grades “D” and “F” indicate failing performance

C. Recruits failing to obtain a passing score on a specific Man ipulative
Performance Objective shall rem ediate only that Performance Obj ective.
They will not be required to par ticipate in a second complete t est of all
Performance Objectives cov ered by the original test.
D. Failure to obtain a passing sco re on the remedial test may r esult in
dismissal from the academy.
