Training Page 1 of 2 2/11.0 (REV 3/91) RECRUIT ACADEMIC TESTING The purpose of this order is to d escribe the procedure for admi nistering academic examinations at the Sheriff’s Training Academy using the POSTRAC program. I. Description A. POSTRAC is an automated testing and tracking computer system developed by the Commission on P eace Officers Standards and Tra ining (POST). B. A host computer located at the State of California “Teale Da ta Center” in Sacramento is used to store tes ts and process program evaluatio n information. C. A computer at POST headquarters is used for test development , system maintenance, and support. D. At least two examinati ons are available through POSTRAC for each “Knowledge Domain.” One examination is used for the primary exa m and one for remediation. E. Examinations are periodica lly updated by POST personnel. F. The academy computer is equip ped with a modem and automatica lly dials the host computer when a Knowledge Domain number is selected. T he examinations are dow nloaded into the academy computer (see the POSTRAC operations manual). II. Administering Examinations A. Written examinations shall be administered after each Knowle dge Domain of instruction throughout the training program. 1. The basic course is divided in to 38 Knowledge Domains. 2. Two or three Knowledge Domain examinations may be administered at the same time d epending upon available time. B. Each examination is scor ed and graded by the academy compute r using the “Scantron” machine and the POSTRAC program. Training Page 2 of 2 2/11.0 (REV 3/91) C. Grades shall be posted on t he classroom bulletin board gener ally within 24 hours of the exam. D. Recruits who score below 80% on an academic examination shal l be remediated and that examination will be counted as a failure (s ee Academy Objectives and Expectati ons for further information and Operations Order 2/11.1 [3/91]). III. Remediation A. A recruit failing a Knowled ge Domain examination will review all items on the exam and will be gi ven the correct answers to all test ques tions answered incorrectly. B. The academy staff will answer any questions which develop pe rtaining to exam items during the examination review. C. Another examination from the POSTRAC system will be administered for the Knowledge Domain failed. D. A recruit who fails to obtain 80% or higher on the remedial exam may be dismissed from the academy.
