RECRUIT HANDBOOK
The purpose of this order is to d escribe the contents, usage, r evision, and distribution of
the Academy Recruit Handbook for t he Sheriff’s Basic Recruit Ac ademy.
I. General
The contents of the handbook shall include the following:
A. Confirmation of enrollment i n the Basic Recruit Academy.
B. Academy rules and regulations. C. Academy objectives and expectations. D. Academy drill and ceremony instructions. E. Map of academy grounds. F. Spelling word lists. G. Instructional syllabus. H. POST performance objective manual.
II. Purpose of the Handbook
The recruit handbook delineates t he responsibilities and genera l requirements of
the recruit during t he training program.
III. Revision of the Handbook
A. Academy staff will review t he recruit handbook prior to eac h academy
class presentation.
B. Revisions of policy will be approved through the appropriat e chain of
command prior to implementation.
C. Revision and/or corrections will be completed in a timely ma nner to ensure
printing at least two weeks prio r to the beginning of each pre sentation.

IV. Handbook Distribution
A. Recruits will be provided with the recruit handbook two wee ks prior to the
beginning of the training program.
B. Recruits will be required to r ead and have a wo rking knowled ge of the
contents of the entire recruit handbook prior to the beginning of the
training program. C. Recruits will be instructed to have the recruit handbook in their possession
during the training program. F ailure to comply with this requi rement will be
cause for the issuance of a performance deficiency notice.
