Security Services Page 1 of 2 02/08 (REV 01/06) Workplace Violence Investigation Procedure The purpose of this Order is to o utline the Security Services B ureau’s procedure for investigating instances of workplace violence. I. General Security Services Bureau shall in vestigate any workplace violen ce incident which is reported to any Secur ity Services Bureau personnel fro m any agency which contracts with Se curity Services Bureau. II. Workplace Violence Defined A. Workplace violence is an act( s) which takes place on the emp loyer’s premises and at other locations where employees engage in work related activities and are pres ent as a condition of employment . B. Violence is any incident which could: 1. Increase in intensity and thr eaten the safety of an employee , 2. Have a damaging impact on any employee’s physical or psychological well-being, 3. interfere with an empl oyees ability to perform, 4. Cause damage to property, and 5. Include physical violence and/ or threats of physical violenc e that would lead a reasonable pers on to fear for their safety. III. Reporting Procedure If an incident becomes known to S ecurity Services Bureau person nel and the incident involves an action or threat to commit violence ag ainst any contract agency employee, the following procedures will be foll owed: A. If the action or threat amounts to a crime. 1. Immediately notify a Field Supervisor. 2. Make a detaile d logbook entry. 3. Complete a Crime Report. 4. Complete a Watch Summary. Security Services Page 2 of 2 02/08 (REV 01/06) 5. Make an arrest if necessary. B. The action or threat does not amount to a crime. 1. Immediately notify a Field Supervisor. 2. Make a detaile d log entry. 3. Complete an Incident Report. 4. Complete a Watch Summary. IV. Threat Assessments Upon notification of a workpla ce violence incident, field deput ies shall determine if a threat assessment is necessary. If so, the depu ty shall complete the Threat to Governm ent Employees Assessment Package as per Security Services Bureau policy.
