Detective Division Page 1 of 2 2/05.0 (REV 6/98) SOUTH DETECTIVE BUREAU The purpose of this order is to outline the duties and responsi bilities of the South Detective Bureau which includ es the investig ation and apprehens ion of responsible persons for the crimes specified herein which occur south of th e American River (Districts Five through Eight). I. General A. The structure of t he South Detective Bureau is as follows: 1. Burglary Detail 2. Metro Detail 3. Domestic Violence Response Team 4. SLUGS Detail 5. Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detail II. Responsibilities A. The Burglary Detail is respons ible for the investigation and apprehension of those responsible for the following crimes: 1. Entry into structures and v ehicles specified in Section 459 PC with intent to commit a theft. 2. Receiving stolen property off enses in violation of Section 4 96 PC. 3. The recovery of stolen proper ty and return to the rightful o wner. B. The Metro Detail is responsible for the investigation of the following offenses: 1. All misdemeanor offenses with t he exception of thefts, narco tics offenses, sexually motivated offenses, check and credit card offenses, low priority vandal ism cases, and harassing and threatening phone calls as defined by Section 653m PC. This detail investigates domes tic violence, bias-motivated c rimes, felony assaults, and other major felonies except attempted homicide and ki dnapping cases. 3. The Metro Bureau assi sts other bureaus as needed. 4. All gang-related cases shall be referred to the Narcotics/Ga ngs Task Force for investi gation and disposition. 5. Harassing by telephone cases (Section 653m PC) are handled b y the Sheriff’s Department S ervice Center personnel. C. The Domestic Violence Respons e Team is responsible for the f ollowing: 1. Maintaining a community-ori ented partnership with WEAVE that focuses on domestic violence wi th emphasis on intervention strategies rather than arrest. 2. Follow-up investigat ion of Patrol Services referrals and cas es involving repeat incidents of domestic violence. 3. Community-based outreach and training relating to domestic violence issues. 4. Domestic violence victim advocacy. D. The SLUGS Detail is res ponsible for the following: 1. Conduct sub-rosa investigations into burglary and receiving stolen property cases referred to them by informants or the bureau commander. 2. Assist other bureaus or divisi ons with sub-rosa investigatio ns such as surveillance and long-term inve stigations as approved by the bureau commander. E. The EOD Detail is responsible for the following (County-wide ): 1. Investigation of offenses rel ating to explosives and destruc tive devices. 2. Collection, preservation, and eventual destruction of explos ives. 3. Issuance of explosive storage permits and inspection of stor age sites. 4. Refer to Operations Order 2/ 10.0 for a full description of E OD Detail duties and responsibilities.
