Training Page 1 of 2 2/05.0 (REV 3/91) ACADEMY ORIENTATION The purpose of this order is to o utline the procedure for the B asic Recruit Academy orientation. I. General A. Recruits shall be instructed to report to the Sheriff’s Trai ning Academy at a pre-determined date and time at l east two weeks prior to the fi rst day of class. B. Academy staff sha ll lead the class in t he Pledge of Allegian ce and conduct the roll call of recruits. C. Introduction of the academy staff will be conducted by the d irector. D. The academy staff will provi de an overview of the academic a nd physical training programs and explain the contents of the recruit handb ook. E. Recruits shall complete the following forms: 1. Academy personal information form. 2. Felony disclaimer form. 3. Physical training clothi ng order form (two copies). 4. San Juan Adult Education registration form. 5. Apprenticeship Agreement, if applicable. F. Recruits will be given the a ssignment to write a personal hi story essay to include a brief biogr aphy and comments on t heir reasons for ent ering the academy. Requirements for the essay shall be as follows: 1. Three to five pages in length. 2. Double-spaced on co llege-ruled lined paper. 3. Printed, not typed, in black ink using block letters.
