ROBBERY DETAIL
The purpose of this order is to outline the duties and responsi bilities of the Robbery
Detail. I. General
A. The Robbery Detail is responsib le for the investigation of r obberies, the
apprehension of responsible persons , the identification and ret urn of
stolen property, and case present ation to the District Attorney ’s Office for
the following types of crimes:
1. Robbery 2. Weapons offense 3. Extortion
II. Personnel Duty Assignments
A. Geographical Assignments
1. Three detectives shall be assi gned to investigate offenses t hat
occur north of the American River.
2. Two detectives shall be assi gned to investigate offenses tha t occur
south of the American River.
3. Each detective shall be res ponsible for a specific geographi cal area
(district) for the purpose of i dentifying trends and becoming f amiliar
with repeat offenders.
B. Crime Type Assignments
1. One detective shall serve as liaison officer with the FBI Ba nk Unit
and shall be assigned all bank robbery cases.
C. Support Functions
1. The Robbery Detail clerk sha ll maintain computerized crime
analysis information.

2. Case assignment/status informa tion shall be mai ntained in a
computerized data file.
3. Division mug shot files for photographic line-ups shall be
maintained by Robbery Detail personnel.
4. Robbery Detail personnel shall maintain surveillance videos as
evidence in a locked storage c abinet in the Robbery Detail work
area. A log of these tapes shall be maintained.
5. The Robbery Detail shall main tain a small supply of ETS tags for
use in developing a robbery seri es. When not in use, the tags s hall
be made available for use by ot her units of the Detective Divis ion,
as needed.
