ACADEMIC COORDINATOR
The purpose of this order is to describe the duties and respons ibilities of the Academic
Coordinator. I. General
Under the direction and supervi sion of the academy director, th e academic
coordinator is responsible for the following duties:
A. Develops the academic schedule incorporating all Commission on Peace
Officer Standards and Training (P OST) mandated performance obje ctives
and department-approved curriculum.
1. Prepares the course announcemen t and forwards it, with a cop y of
the schedule, to POST at least 3 0 days prior to the course
presentation.
2. Completes a roster of st udents and forwards it to POST no mo re
than seven days after completion of the course.
3. Develops the daily rec ruit training schedule.
B. Tracks recruit attendance and forwards a copy of the attenda nce roster to
the San Juan Unifie d School District, Adult Education Departmen t.
C. Prepares and administers academic examinations.
1. Examinations are downloaded fr om the POST computer using the
POSTRAC program.
a. Performs monthly updates of POSTRAC files (see
POSTRAC operator’s manual).
2. Copies examinations and adminis ters them to the recruits usi ng
“Scantron” answer forms.
3. Grades examinations via t he Scantron machine and the POSTRAC
program and posts grades by recr uit identification number.

a. Uploads recruits responses and scores to POST on a weekly
basis.
b. Updates backup files of all POSTRAC data on a weekly
basis.
c. Re-indexes the POSTRAC database after each update
process and after any recruit deletions.
4. Reviews examination fa ilures with the recruit.
a. Schedules a remedial exam and retests the recruit in the
failed subject matter.
5. Notifies instruct ors of teaching schedules and assists in th e
preparation of lesson plans.
a. Notifies instructors by tel ephone to check availability and
completes and forwards a contract to the instructor for signature.
b. Retains a copy of all lesson plans and handout information i n
the academy files; this info rmation must not be more than
two years old.
(1) Has instructors’ handouts printed; originals must be
submitted by the instructor a t least one month prior to
the presentation.
6. Coordinates implementation of all POST mandates for the basi c
course.
a. Distributes information regarding POST workshops and
current unit guides to appropriate instructors.
7. Supervises and counsels recruits.
8. Reviews recruit essay assignments.
9. Assists the Rangem aster when needed.
10. Assists with work project workers.
