Conduct and Ethics
The purpose of this order is to o utline the required code of co nduct for Field Services
personnel. I. Code of Ethics
Officers in Field Services are vested with a public trust to up hold the laws of the
United States, the State of Calif ornia, and the County of Sacra mento. Officers
shall be aware of the limitati ons of their authority in the enf orcement of the law.
They shall respect the dignity, human rights, and constitutiona l rights of all
persons. Field Services office rs shall, both on and off duty, e xemplify the highest
ethical and moral standards of conduct.
II. Conduct
Officers in Field Services shall be aware of their lawful autho rity to use only that
force reasonably necessary in se curing compliance with their la wful enforcement
duties. They shall diligently devot e their time and attention t o the effective and
professional performance of t heir responsibilities. They shall refrain from any
activity that results in impairm ent, which brings discredit upo n the profession or
the department, or renders them unf it for their next work shift . They shall not
participate in any incident invol ving moral turpitude. They sha ll not engage in any
activity, which would create a conflict of interest or would be in violation of any
law. They shall at all times conduct themselves in a manner, wh ich does not
discredit the peace officer prof ession or the department. They shall not be
disrespectful in their official dealings with the public, fello w officers, superiors and
subordinates. They shall maintain the integrity of their profes sion through
complete disclosure of those w ho violate any of these rules of conduct, violate
any law, or who conduct themselv es in a manner which tends to d iscredit the
profession. They shall not cons ider their badge a license desig ned to provide
them with special favo r or consideration.
