Identification Bur eau Page 1 of 2 2/ 01.4 (NEW 1/07) Video Specialties Unit The purpose of this Order is to d escribe the Vide o Specialties Unit and define its responsibilities. I. Unit Description The Video Specialties Unit is assigned to the Identification Bu reau. The Unit’s primary function is to produce sp ecial projects such as photogr aphy, video production, illustrations/ graphic art and displays. II. Chain of Command The Video Specialties Unit shal l fall under the supervision of the identification Bureau Commander. The Unit Manager assigned to the Identificat ion Bureau shall maintain daily operations of the unit. III. Availability The Video Specialties Unit wi ll be available to Sheriff’s Depar tment Personnel from 0800 to 1800 hours, weekdays Monday through Thursday, and as needed by special arrangement, for phot ographing department events or special projects; video production for department e vents, training/teaching, publ ic relations and special projects; and illustrations /graphic art for special pro jects. IV. Responsibilities A. Personnel responsibilities 1. Video Specialties Unit Manager – supervise the daily activit ies of the unit to assure that approved pr ojects are prioritized and executed in the most efficien t manner; research current technol ogy and submit recommendations to upg rade equipment as necessary; supervise the daily work of the Video Specialties Assistant; re view and approve project request; coor dinate project scheduling; oversee productions; and review project requests with the Identification Bureau Commander. 2. Video Specialties Assistan t – work under the direction of th e Video Specialties Unit Manager to: ma intain unit facilities, equipmen t and supplies; assist with photography and video projects; and compl ete special assignments. Photography – The Vi deo Specialties Unit w ill be available t o: photograph department events such as Department Graduation Ceremonies, Swear-In Cerem onies, Promotion Ceremonies, Service Award Ceremonies , Recognition/Commendation Ceremonies, Annual Awards Ceremonies, County Recognition Ceremonies, Retirement Ceremonies , Memorial Services and other special events as assigned; offi cial photographs for the Sherif f’s Executive Staff, Captains and ot her command staff as assigned; and department personnel at work a ssignments for department archive; and other activit ies and functions as needed. The Video Specialties Unit w ill post photographs of the departm ent events to the SSDWEB Internal Website. 2. Video Production – The Video Sp ecialties Unit will assist Sh eriff’s Department Personnel with video pr ojects such as training video s, briefing videos and public relat ions videos. Assistance may in clude needs assessment, project development, scripting, pre-productio n planning, casting, directing, edi ting, post-production and dist ribution as needed. The Unit will provi de video duplication and video media transfe r service to Sheriff’s Department P ersonnel within the limits of copyright law. The Unit will prov ide video evidence duplicatio n service for the Forensic and Records Division. 3. Illustration, Graphic Art and Dis play – The Video Specialtie s Unit will assist Department Personnel with special projects requirin g illustrations, graphic art and/or s tatic displays with the expr ess approval of the identific ation Bureau Commander. The Unit will render C omposite Sketches for criminal investigat ions as needed. V. Maintenance A. The Video Specialties Unit M anager will maintain the proper supplies for daily photo processing/ printing and video produc tion/duplicati on for the Sheriff’s Department, and requisi tion the appropriate technical support for service when equipment malfunctions occur. B. The Video Specialties Unit w ill maintain a clean and functio nal work environment. Cameras, video reco rding equipment, lighting equi pment, editing equipment, computer and duplication equipment, sound equipment, sets, backgrounds and p rops will be treated with car e and maintained in working order or replaced when necessary to ensur e that efficient, productive service i s provided to the department.
