In-Service Training
The purpose of this Order is to outline a policy for the schedu ling and preparation of in-
service training materials and presentations.
I. General
In order to maintain a high leve l of training a nd professionali sm, the Security
Services Bureau should provide continuous training to all perso nnel who are
assigned to field duties.
II. Training Schedule
The Security Services Bureau sha ll provide in-service training at least twice per year
to all personnel assigned to fiel d duties. The Bureau Commander shall designate the
dates and times for training. These dates shall be two county h olidays per year with
a minimum of three months separ ation between the dates. In-ser vice training is
prohibited on the following county holidays: A. New Years Day B. Independence Day C. Thanksgiving D. Christmas
III. Course Outline
The Bureau Commander or his/her designee(s) shall establish a c ourse outline for
each training day. The training c ourse should be related to the operational
responsibilities of Bureau personn el assigned to field duties a nd/or Bureau policy.
The training must be appropriate and consisten t with Bureau and Department policy.
The training may consist of: A. Operational or specialized training by Bureau personnel.
B. Specialized training by Sher iffs Department subject matter experts.
C. Specialized training by indepen dent contractors, or outside agency subject
matter experts.

IV. Attendance
All Bureau personnel may attend in-service training. The follow ing personnel are
required to attend: A. Sheriffs Deputies B. Security Officers C. On-Call Sheriffs Deputies w ho work more than thirty (30) ho urs per pay
period on average.
Personnel may only be excused fr om training by a Bureau supervi sor.
