Detective Division Page 1 of 1 1/10.0 (REV 4/97) DESTRUCTION OF CONFI DENTIAL DOCUMENTS The purpose of this order is to outline responsibility for hand ling confidential documents and a method for the destru ction of such documents. I. Confidential Documents Defined A. Orders, bulletins, memorandum s, and other official reports p repared and disseminated by depa rtment personnel. B. Criminal offender record information. C. Any copies of above materials. II. Responsibility for C onfidential Documents A. Division personnel shall be responsible for the handling and security of confidential documents under their control. This responsibility continues until the documents ar e placed into the proper destruction cont ainers. B. Sections 11140 through 11144 PC define and restrict the use and dissemination of criminal offender record information. Violatio n of these sections is a misdemeanor. III. Destruction of C onfidential Documents A. Confidential documents shall not be placed in regular waste receptacles for disposal unless they hav e been shredded by a paper shredder . Documents that have not been sh redded shall be placed into disp osal cartons marked Confidential Destruction . B. Bureau commanders sha ll ensure that boxes containing confide ntial waste are periodically removed by a co mmercial waste removal company. Bureau commanders shall coordinate this service with the divisi on administrative services officer.
