Sick Leave Notification
The purpose of this Order is to outline the procedures to be fo llowed when
utilizing sick leave.
I. General
Security Services Bureau personnel may utilize sick leave as au thorized.
It is the responsibility of t he employee to follow department p olicy when
reporting sick leave use. All Secu rity Services Bureau employe es have an
obligation to ensure appropriate s ecurity coverage at facilitie s where
Security Services provides cont racted security services.
II. Procedures
A. All instances of anticipated si ck leave must be reported as soon as
possible and no later than two hours prior to t he beginning of an
employee’s shift.
B. All notification mu st be made to a Security Services Bureau supervisor.
Voice mail messages do not consti tute a notification. If an em ployee
cannot contact a Security Services Bureau supervisor, the Secur ity
Services Bureau Commander shall be notified. If an employee is
unable to make a proper notification due to the unavailability of a
supervisor or the Bureau Commander , the Security Services Burea u
Central Control sha ll be notified. Cont rol personnel shall con tinue to
attempt to contact a supervisor.
C. All employees shall submit an absence request reflecting sic k leave
usage immediately up on return to work.
D. In exigent circumstances, when an employee arranges his/her own
coverage, a supervisor must be notified as soon as possible.
III. Eligibility
Definitions of eligible family mem bers for family sick leave us age, and the
intended purposes of sick leave , as defined by law, are prescri bed in
General Order 15/03.
