Field Services Trai ning Coordinator
The purpose of this order is to define the duties and responsib ilities of the Field
Services Training Coordinator. I. General
The Field Services Training Coordinator will be a sergeant assi gned to Field
Services. The training coordi nator works under the general dire ction of the Chief
Deputy of Field Services and repor ts directly to the Administra tive Lieutenant of
Field Services. The Training C oordinator manages the Field Trai ning Program
and monitors the progress of Sher iff's trainees and the efficie ncy of field training
officers.
II. Responsibilities Pertaining to Trainees
A. Monitor each trainee's progre ss through review of daily and bi-weekly
evaluations, input from the field training officer, watch serge ant, watch
commander and the divisions’ training sergeant.
B. Direct and review counseling sessions conducted by division supervisors
and conduct additional sessions to assist the trainee with prog ress when
deficiencies are recognized.
C. Prepare and forward recommendat ions and reports on progress, retention
and termination of trainees to the respective division commande r and the
Chief Deputy of Field Services.
D. Conduct exit interviews with trainees who fail to successful ly complete the
training program. The purpose of t he exit interview is to make
recommendations for corrective action and remediation.
E. Complete the administrative process on trainees who have fai led the
training program and require trans fer or release from employmen t.
III. Responsibilities Pertaining to Field Training Officers
A. Monitor the performance of the field training officers, as t rainers and
evaluators through:

2. Review of trainee evaluations written by field training offi cers.
3. Input from the training office r’s watch sergeant’s, watch
commanders, the divisions’ trai ning sergeant, and the division
commander.
4. Input from trainees.
B. Counsel Field Training Office rs relative to training matters and teaching
techniques.
C. Prepare and forward recomm endations to the Chief Deputy of F ield
Services and the division commander relative to field training officers’
performance and retention.
IV. Other Duties
A. Prepare, coordinate and disse minate the assignment of traine es to Field
Training Officers and the res pective training sergeants.
B. Prepare and disseminate field training officers/trainee assi gnment list to all
Field Training Officers, the di vision training sergeant, and th e division
commanders.
C. Assist with transfer protocol regarding the movement of pers onnel to and
from Field Services.
D. Regularly evaluate the Field Training Program and, if necess ary,
recommend modifications to the ch ief deputy of field services.
E. Coordinate training for other related patrol functions and p erform related
administrative duties as dete rmined by the Chief Deputy of Fiel d Services.
F. Ensure maintenance of the P eace Officers Standards and Train ing
(POST) certification for the Fi eld Training Program and assure the
program operates withi n POST guidelines.
G. Co-chair the Patrol Planning Committee.
