Field Services Page 1 of 2 01/05 (REV 1/04) Patrol Watch Commander The purpose of this order is to establish the duties and respon sibilities of the Patrol Watch Commander. I. General The Patrol Watch Commander, a S heriff's Lieutenant, is responsi ble for a particular tour of duty as assigne d by the respective Patrol Di vision Commander. II. Responsibilities A. Sergeants receive and correct reports from subordinates, pla cing critical emphasis upon completeness and accu racy, being equally critical regarding proper elements of crimes and arrests. B. No other activity but law enf orcement business is conducted in Patrol Division facilities. C. Patrol Division facilities a re kept in a clean and orderly m anner. D. Sergeants require officers to handle investigations and serv ices in a timely and correct manner. E. Sergeants conduct uniform and grooming inspections. F. Reports written by sergeants ar e complete and accurate and t horoughly investigated. G. Sergeants spend the greater por tion of their tour of duty in field supervision and inspections, cont acting each Patrol Officer whe never feasible. H. Subordinates immediately report all major crimes and felonie s and any other item of considerable inte rest for evaluation. In turn, t he Watch Commander shall report all unusual s ituations and emergencies t o superiors. I. All members of the watch are kept informed of procedure chan ges, new laws, etc. Field Services Page 2 of 2 01/05 (REV 1/04) J. Any aid, encouragement or instructions are given and a prope r example is set for all members of the watch. K. Other divisions are contact ed as necessary in order to ensur e the proper coordination of activitie s with Patrol Services. L. Availability is mai ntained by telephone, MDT, or radio to al l members of the watch. M. Sergeants review activity sheets. N. Sergeants keep the Watch Comm ander informed on the relative efficiency and accomplishments of the watch. O. An effort has been made to be familiar with all law enforcem ent matters occurring since the last tour of duty. P. Regular training sessions a re conducted during roll call bri efing. Q. Special assignments directed by the Division Commander to th e Watch Commander are carried out and completed.
