Written Memorandum
The purpose of this Order is to outline the procedures for dist ributing memoranda
throughout the Security Services Bureau.
I. General
An “IDC” is an Inter-Department Correspondence. It is another name for
memorandum. The “IDC” is the Sa cramento County Sheriff’s
Department’s official means of co mmunicating within the Departm ent.
This form of communication conv eys thoughts/ideas to personnel within
the Sheriff’s Department through the proper chain of command.
II. Distribution of IDC
Any IDC that is addressed to th e entire Bureau, regardless of c ontent, or
any IDC that discusses bureau-wide policy, must be approved by the
Bureau Commander prior to distri bution. Once the document has been
approved, the Bureau Co mmander will ensure the document is dist ributed
to the affected work areas.
