CIVIL DIVISION – F IELD SUPERVISOR
The purpose of this Operations Or der is to outline the duties a nd responsibilities of the
Sheriff’s Civil Divis ion Field Supervisor
I. General
The Field Supervisor holds the rank of Sheriff’s Sergeant, and is responsible for
the direction of the field per sonnel of the Civil Division. Fo r division purposes, the
field personnel include the deputies and process servers.
II. Chain of Command
The Field Supervisor reports d irectly to the Division Commande r. He/she reports
information as directed by the Commander along with any other necessary or
important information.
III. Administrative Duties
Research of laws, case decisions , and legislation pertaining t o Civil Division
responsibilities
Ensures required training is completed by deputies
Liaison between his/her subor dinates and his/her superiors
Liaison between field st aff and clerical staff
Prepares field personnel evaluations
Develops and implements policie s and procedures related to fie ld personnel.
Reviews and signs field personnel time sheets
IV. Supervisory Duties
Supervises all field personnel
Reviews major levies for a ccuracy, completeness and validity
Reviews Civil Bench Warrants
Backs up field personnel with their duties
Assists with problem cases
Investigates division vehicle accidents
Advises and counsels personnel as necessary
Responds to service and personnel complaints
Oversees use of vehicles by the field staff
Issues equipment as nece ssary to Civil personnel
Supervises the division’s Records Officer II

V. Additional Duties
Supervises the division’s cleri cal staff in the absence of the Sheriff’s Records
Manager and Records Supervisor
Acts as Division Commander when the Commander and Records Mana ger are
absent
Conducts Sheriff’s sales
Oversees the issuance of build ing entry cards to Civil personn el
Oversees transportation of ma il and money deposits from Civil to other facilities
