CORRECTIONAL SERVICES Page 1 of 5 1/03 (REV 7/07) MJ/RCCC OPERATIONS ORDER Employee Conduct The purpose of this Order is to outline the standards of employ ee conduct at the Main Jail and Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center (RCCC). I. Policy All personnel are expected to c onduct themselves in a competent and professional manner at all times. If there is a doubt or question, employee s or volunteers are directed to consult a supervisor for guidance. II. Related General Orders A. Employees shall be aware of and adhere to the policies and regulations within the Sheriff’s Departments Departmental Gener al Orders and Divisional Operations Orders. B. Employees shall notify the division administration of any ch ange of address, telephone numbers, and emer gency notification informat ion within five days of the status change. Refer to General Order 11/01 – Notification of Change of Addr ess, Phone Number, or Emergency Contact Data. C. Items of county property which are surplus and have a residu al value shall be disposed in a manner consistent with General Order 16/05 – Surplus of County Property. III. General Behavior A. All personnel shall conduct t hemselves in a professional man ner at all times and shall refrain from et hnically or sexually biased rema rks, vulgarity and sexual harassment. B. All persons employed at the correctional facilities, either in a paid or volunteer capacity must observe all rules, regulations, and law s pertaining to custodial facilities. Any fa ilure to do so may result in di sciplinary action, exclusion from the facilitie s, or legal consequences. C. Employees shall maintain a professional relationship with pr isoners. Custody staff shall not discuss personal matters, information, or prisoner legal matters unless requir ed for official business. CORRECTIONAL SERVICES Page 2 of 5 1/03 (REV 7/07) MJ/RCCC 1. Non-sworn personnel will not i ntervene in any prisoner versu s prisoner or prisoner versus sworn staff dispute. D. Information of a confidentia l nature contained in the CLETS System, the CJIS program and in the records and files of the Sacramento She riff’s Department is protected by law and is not to be disclosed or di sseminated unless authorized by law and in the performance of official dut ies. E. Employees shall maintain a professional and cooperative atti tude with other employees and staff from other agencies. Any unresolved difficulties should be refe rred to a supervisor. F. Employees shall not engage in any activity that may interfer e with the ability to actively observe, super vise and control prisoners. G. Employees are expected to report for duty on time and with h is/her issued duty gear/equipment. H. Employees unable to report to work due to illness shall noti fy Central Control at the Main Jail or the Watch Office at RCCC, as soon as possible but at least two (2) hours prior to the beginning of the employ ees shift. 1. Employees not assigned to a shift shall notify his/her immed iate supervisor within the sa me time parameters. 2. Employees who anticipate he/she may be late for work shall f ollow the same notification procedures. 3. Non-Department employees are to report in accordance with his/her agency’s procedures. I. All department employees sha ll remain on assignment until re lieved, unless a supervisor authorizes the employee to leave prior to t he end of his/her assigned shift. 1. In the event an employee is not relieved on time, a supervis or shall be notified. J. Under no circumstances shall an employee leave an assigned p ost until he/she has been properly relieve d or until a supervisor has aut horized the absence. K. Employees shall not leave his/her post or the facility for a ny period of time without notifying his/her immedi ate supervisor in advance. L. Employees shall not park private vehicles in marked parking spaces or in the divisions’ administration spaces. CORRECTIONAL SERVICES Page 3 of 5 1/03 (REV 7/07) MJ/RCCC 1. At the Main Jail there shall be no parking in the garage or in the north lot of the facility, exce pt motorcycles and bicycles, wit hout permission from the Division Commander or designee. 2. At RCCC , employees shall not drive or park personal vehicles in areas other than desig nated parking lots without permission fro m a watch commander. M. Uniformed personnel shall wear the appropriate uniform as sp ecified by the Uniform and Safety Equipment Manual, unless specifically ex empted by the division commander. 1. Employees wearing a Sheriff Department uniform to or from hi s/her duty assignment, while in a civilian vehicle shall wear a civil ian garment that covers the badge and identifying patches. 2. Uniformed personnel shall comp ly with the dress and grooming standards as specifically de scribed in the uniform manual. 3. Non-sworn personnel shall dr ess in a professional manner in accordance with General Order s and the Uniform and Safety Equipment Manual. 4. Non-department staff will dre ss in accordance with the requirements of this/her agency or employer. N. Employees or volunteers shall not make public statements or comments to the media.
