Identification Bureau Page 1 of 3 1/ 01.0 (REV 1/07) Identification Bureau Per sonnel and Responsibilities The purpose of this Order is to describe the general responsibi lities of personnel assigned to the Ident ification Bureau. I. Personnel and Responsibilities The Identification Bu reau personnel and a ge neral description o f their duties are as follows: A. Supervisors 1. Supervise all personnel assign ed to the Identification Burea u 2. Train personnel on duty responsibilities 3. Approve all reports 4. Assign work schedules 5. Review all existing procedures and prepare new procedures as required 6. Prepare budgets 7. Inspect and evaluate Bureau personnel, order supplies and equipment 8. Perform other duties as required B. Identification Unit 1. Make comparisons of inked and latent print impressions to exemplar prints of known subjec ts to establish identification o r elimination 2. Make comparisons of latent and inked prints to computerized data base images 3. Process evidence in the laborat ory, or at a c rime scene for latent prints and other evidence Identification Bureau Page 2 of 3 1/ 01.0 (REV 1/07) 4. Take prints of victims, suspects, applicants, and deceased p ersons 5. Fingerprint and phot ograph applicants, m isdemeanor arrestees , and felony registrants 6. Collect evidence from suspects and victims for criminalistic s processing 7. Prepare court exhibits 8. Interview witnesses in pr eparing composites of suspects 9. Take evidence, crime sc ene and personal identification photographs using a variety of c ameras and video equipment; wri te reports 10. Prepare court exhibits test ify in court regarding friction ridge skin comparison, evidence collecti on and crime scene processing techniques, forensic photography and facial composite construct ion 11. Operate and maintain a darkroom 12. Assist clerical staff at the public counter 13. Perform all typing required in the processing of applicants for licenses and permits, felony r egistrants and other mandated fingerprinting and prepare associated billings 14. Prepare identification card s for departmental and other Cou nty personnel 15. Maintain files, access and update computer files 16. Answer incoming telephone calls 17. Perform other duties as required C. Crime Scene Investigation Officers 1. Evaluate crime scenes 2. Develop and collect l atent fingerprint evidence 3. Identify, collect and preserve other types of physical evide nce 4. Record crime scenes through phot ography, videography, diagra ms and written reports 5. Temporary Employees 1. Handle routine photography requests 2. Perform basic clerical dutie s within the Identification Bure au 3. Answer basic question s by phone and in person 4. Assist Identification Technici ans staff with CAL-ID related activities 5. Perform other duties as required
