308.1 Introduction
Traffic enforcement is an important function of the police department. The purpose of traffic enforcement
is to ensure the safe and expeditious travel of vehicular and pedestrian traffic and to reduce the severity
and frequency of traffic crashes through voluntary compliance from the public. The Police Department
strives to obtain this objective through the combination of education and enforcement. The Traffic
Division operates under the Operations Bureau and directly reports to the Traffic and Neighborhood Safety
Captain.
