Subject: Agency Rifle Care a nd Cleaning
The extent of disassembly required for the performance of maintenance by the operator is as
follows:
Field Stripping
1. Disassembly
A. Both visually and physically check the chamber and magazine well, making sure
the weapon is empty. Once the weapon is clean and empty, send the bolt forward
on an empty chamber.
B. Separate the receivers.
1. Push take down pin to start, then pull take down pin out to detent.
2. Push pivot pin to start, then pull pivot pin out to de tent.
3. Both pins are located on the lower receiver. Once accomplished separate
receivers.
C. Remove bolt carrier assembly and charging handle from upper receiver
1. Grasp the charging handle and pull it back half way.
2. Pull the bolt carrier group free from the upper receiver.
3. Align the charging handle with the key way located in the top of the upper
receiver.
4. Remove the charging handle.
D. Disassemble bolt carrier assembly but do not disassembl e ejector.
1. Press in the bolt inward toward the bolt carrier.
2. Press in the bolt inward toward the bolt carrier.
3. 3. Pull the firing pin retaining pin from the left side of the bolt carrier. The
firing pin should fall freely from within the carrier.
4. Rotate the cam pin ninety degrees, parallel with the g as key.

5. Remove the cam pin.
6. Remove the bolt from the end of the carrier.
1. Cleaning
A. Attach the small bore cleaning brush to the cleaning rod and insert it in the bolt carrier
key. Rotate brush clockwise to remove carbon and powder residue. Do not u se any
cleaning compound on the brush when cleaning out the key.
B. Dip the bore cleaning brush in a solvent and brush the bore from the chamber end
of the barrel. Push the brush through the bore until it extends beyond the muzzle
before pulling it back. Then use patches to absorb the cleaning compound in the
barrel. You can also use a .223 bore snake from the chamber end of the barrel and
pulling the bore snake completely out from the muzzle end (do not pull in back out
from the chamber end).
C. Attach the large chamber cleaning brush to the cleaning rod. Dip the brush in bore
cleaning compound and clean the chamber. Use a minimum of five plunge strokes
and three 360 -degree clock -wise rotational strokes.
4. Cleaning with nylon brush:
A. Lower rec eiver around gas tube
B. Bolt locking lugs
C. Rear of bolt – tail of bolt must be scraped clean of accumulated carbon using a
pick or suitable tool, such as a bolt scraper.
D. Firing pin
E. Bolt cam pin
F. Inside bolt carrier front – inside of carrier must be scrape d clean of accumulated
carbon using a pick or suitable tool, such as a bolt scraper.
G. Inside bolt carrier rear
Then wipe these parts dry.
Inspection
1. After cleaning, inspect all parts for excessive wear, corrosion or mechanical damage
(eg; visually check gas rings, check gas key to confirm it is tigh t). If any of these faults
are discovered, the weapon must be turned in for repair.
2. Check any attached accessories such as optics, flashlights and iron sights to confirm
they are function ing and tight.

After parts have been cleaned and inspected, all metal parts will be wiped with a cloth, which
has been lightly oiled with a lubricant , such as CLP Break Free or other lubricants as approved
by Training . A lightly oiled patch will be run through the barrel once.
1. Special areas of concern for lubrication are:
A. Actions springs, pins, detents, and front and rear takedown pins
B. Forward assist
C. Ejection port cover
D. Ejection port cover spring
E. Charging handle catch
F. Charging handle catch spring
G. Inside bolt at rear
H. Mouth of bolt key
I. Bolt carrier exhaust ports (after assembly)
J. Front sight detents
K. Rear sight detents
L. Windage drum detent
2. Assemble in reverse order and function test weapon at completion of assembly.
