Subject: Aviation Section Fuel Truck
This order consists of the following:

1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines and procedures for the
operation of the Aviation Section Fuel Truck , referenced hereafter as the “Fue l
Truck .”
2. Procedures
A. The Fuel Truck is to be used by the personnel assigned to the Aviation
Section for the purpose of refueling the Agency Helicopters.
B. All requests for the Fuel Truck to be used off the airport property require the
approval of the Aviation Section Commander or designee.
C. The Fuel Truck will be fueled and maintained by Aviation Section personnel
in conjunction with Fleet Maintenance. The Aviation Section shall confirm
that the Fuel T ruck is maintained, cleaned, serviced, and inspected annually
by an approved vendor specializing in the maintenance of aviation fuel
systems.
D. Authorized Utilization
1. Aviation Section personnel are authorized to utilize the Fuel Truck if
he/she meets the below listed standards:
a. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
b. Is an employee of the Sheriff’s Office .
c. Must have successfully completed an Agency approved
training course for the Fuel Truck .
E. Usage Limitations and Conditions
1. All fueling operations will be conducted by two personnel .
2. The Fuel Truck will be parked with the parking brak e engaged and the
Power Take-Off (PTO) pump running.

3. A fuel log reflectin g all fuel loading from the Conv ault will b e
maintained in the cab of the Fuel T ruck.
F. Fuel Truck Contents
1. The Fuel Truck will be equipped with, but not limited to the following
items:
a. Fire Extinguisher (2)
b. Hearing Protection
c. Rubber Gloves
d. E Pass
c. Emergency Equipment (Emergency lights/siren, yellow strobe)
G. Operation of Fuel Truck
1. Refueling A ircraft with Fuel Truck
a. Starting the Fuel T ruck: Confirm the transmission is in Park,
and the PTO is NOT engaged.
b. Turn ignition to ON and allow yellow GLOW PLUG dash
indicator lamp to go out, then turn ignition forward to start.
c. Night operation: bewa re of headlight use and pilot night vision.
d. Note the location of the emergency fuel shut -off and onboard
fire extinguishers.
e. Position the Fuel Truck next to the helicopter such that the
driver’s (left) side of the Fuel Truck is nearest the aircraft , clear
of the rotor arc/tip path .
f. Set the transmission to Park, engage the PTO, note the auto
brake lock engaged.
g. Connect the grounding wire to one of the aircraft grounding
points.
h. Confirm fuel dispense gauge is reset to zero .
i. Place nozzle into a ircraft fuel port and dispense fuel.
j. Close and lock fuel cap, disengage the PTO, rewind the fuel
hose, disconnect ground wire, reset fuel dispense meter to
zero.
k. Confirm PTO is off, park the Fuel Truck, turn the ignition off,
and lock the doors.
2. Refilling the Fuel Truck R eservoir from the Convault .
a. Park the Fuel Truck, passenger side toward the Convault , turn
engine off.
b. Open the hatch on top of the Fuel Truck.
c. Note the location of the emergency shut off valve and fire
extinguishers.
d. Connect the ground wire.
e. Remove the protective red cap from the inlet.
f. Attach the adapter to the inlet.
g. Disconnect the standard fuel dispenser from the Convault

hose, confirm the hose valve is set to OFF, and connect the
Convault hose to the adapte r.
h. Set the Convault hose, adapter, and Fuel Truck refueling
valves all to OPEN.
i. Turn the Convault pump ON.
j. Verify fuel is flowing and monitor Fuel Truck reservoir level
through the top hatch until full.
k. Follow these steps in reverse to complete.
