ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SPECIAL ORDER Effective Date: April 28, 2022  Amends - SO 40.0 ( April 16, 2010 ) Number: 40.0 Distribution: All Crime Prevention Personnel Review Month: October Reviewing Authority: SSD / Community Relations Subj ect: Mobile Crime Prevention Display Unit/Trailer (MCPDU) This order consists of the following: 1. Purpose 2. Procedures 1. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines and procedures for the operation of the Mobile Crime Prevention D isplay Unit /Trailer (MCPDU) . 2. Procedures A. The Mobile Crime Prevention Trailer is to be used to educate and bring awareness to citizens in the areas of crime prevention and disaster preparedness . B. To allow the Crime Prevention Unit to clean, r epair , and service the MCPDU, adequate notice is requested between scheduled functions, when possible thirty (30) days notice is requested to confirm availability. All requests for the unit will be submitted on the Special Events Request Form . The request will be directed to a Crime Prevention supervisor for approval. C. A crime prevention officer or an alternate trained by a crime prevention practitioner shall be pre sent during all functions. This employee shall be in charge of the display. The requesting agency component shall provide additional personnel when necessary. All drivers shall have attended the agency trailer pulling class. Before assigning the MCPDU t o a function, crime prevention personnel shall: 1. Confirm there is enough space for the unit at the requested location. 2. Confirm the unit is washed, vacuumed , and repairs and maintenance are completed prior to the requested function. 3. Conduct a pre -trip inspection as prescribed by Florida law and agency training . 4. Conduct o pening, Set -up, Operational, and Shut -down Procedures: Refer to the on -board checklists. 5. Conduct functions check of generator. D. The Crime Prevention Unit supervisor shall confirm the MCPDU is maintained, cleaned, serviced, and provided for requested functions as approved by the Uniform 40.0, Page 2 of 2 Patrol Division Commander or designee. E. Trailer Equipment 1. Visual Displays 2. Assorted video monitors, DVD players and speakers 3. Weapons Display 4. House Alarm Display with computer 5. Drug Display 6. Residential Door Lock Display 7. Permanent Generator
