This order consists of the following:

1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide the criteria and requirements for nominating and
selecting a deputy for the Deputy of the Month Award.
2. Procedure s
A. Supervisors shall be alert for exemplary performance by deputies and are
encouraged to use the Deputy of the Month Award as a positive tool of recognition.
B. Deputy of the Month Award
1. The Deputy of the Month Award may be awarded to a deputy, depu ty first
class, corporal, or sergeant. Names will be submitted to the sector or section
captain in memorandum format from the supervisor or co -workers of the
deputy being nominated. The memorandum will include documentation of
the performance by listing examples of the deputy’s actions.
2. The criteria for the award will be a continual pattern of exemplary
performance by a deputy. A single incident may be considered as a
nomination if the deputy’s daily performance is above average.
NOTE : If more than one deputy is involved in an incident being considered,
all deputies may be nominated.
3. The nominations will be reviewed by the Sector or Section Captain and
Commanders . The final selection for Deputy of the Month will be made by
the Sector or Section Captain . If there is a tie, both deputies shall receive
the award for that month.
4. The selected deputy for the award may have his/her photograph taken by
Forensics (by appointment) or by the Sector or Section Captain’s designee .
This photograph will be framed and displayed in a conspicuous location in
the sector or section . The frame will be marked “ Deputy of the Month” . The
photograph will be displayed until the next Deputy of the Month is selected.
5. Each Sector or Section may elect to display a plaque entitled “Deputy of the

Month” which lists the names of the deputies selected each month on
individual name plates.
6. The “Deputy of the Month” nomination s paper work should not be forwarded
for consideration for the Seton Award unless the documentation meets the
criteria.
7. Deputy of the Month nominees shall not be precluded from submission for
other awards.
