ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE GENERAL ORDER This order consists of the following: 1. Purpose 2. Policy 3. Procedures 1. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to provide fair and equitable compensation to personnel in the event they must temporarily act as a supervisor/manager in the absence of the regular supervisor/manager. 2. Policy When an employee, in the absence of the supervisor/manager, is performing the full, normal, customary duties, and assignment of that supervisor/manager, said individual shall be entitled to additional compensation over and above the employee's normal base salary. 3. Procedures A. An employee assuming the responsibilities and authority of his or her supervisor/manager shall be entitled to the base salary of a probationary supervisor/manager in that category or equal category. If the employee's base salary is equal to or more than the base salary of the position assumed, the employee shall receive an increase in his/her base salary. The employee shall be placed in a pay step which results in an increase of a minimum of 5%. B. Any employee assuming the responsibilities of a supervisor or manager must serve in the capacity for 80 continuous working hours before a salary increase will occur. Any individual serving in such capacity shall be paid retroactive from the date the temporary position was assumed. Any employee covered by Article 21 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Sheriff and the Fratern al Order of Police Florida State Lodge who is directed by a Supervisor to act in a higher promotional classification for a continuous period of 80 hours or more shall be entitled to the base salary of the higher promotional classification by being placed in a pay step which results in a minimum increase of 5% for the term of the acting assignment. C. Employees shall complete the “Acting Pay Request Form ” on the Sharepoint portal . The employee will fill in all applicable hours in which they were acting in a higher promotional classification and send through their chain of command. The appropriate administrative assistant will send to Personnel Services for pay verification. Personnel Services will then forward to Fiscal for final verification and retroactive payment. Employees who work in an acting capacity and require access to their direct report’s payroll shall complete a Personnel Change Form (PCF) and send to Human Resources. Personnel Services will assign the appropriate supervisor code for the required length of time the individual assumes the responsibilities of a supervisor or manager. E. Individuals should not work out of classification more than ninety (90) consec utive days unless the vacancy cannot be filled immediately or exigent circumstances exist.
