ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE GENERAL ORDER Effective Date: March 10, 2017  Amends - G.O. 2.1.0 (April 16, 2010) Number: 2.1.0 Distribution: All Personnel Review Month: September Reviewing Authority: SSD / Quality Assurance Subject: Goals And Objectives This order consists of the following: 1. Purpose 2. Policy 3. Definitions 4. Procedures 1. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to establish and routinely update goals and objectives for the agency and each component. 2. Policy It will be the policy of the agency to establish and annually update agency goals and objectives. 3. Definitions A. Goals - broad statements of desired outcomes of activities. B. Objectives - realistic, specific, measurable actions taken to achieve goals. C. Organizational component - any section, unit, or squad that has a function unique from any other section, unit, or squad. 4. Procedures A. Goal Statements 1. The agency will maintain specific goals to guide organizational components towards the same desir ed outcome. Agency goals will be reviewed as needed by Command Staff. Any recommended changes will be provided to the Sheriff to remain current and relevant. Research and Development will maintain a list of the current goal statements. 2. Each organizatio nal component will inform their employees how to access, via SharePoint, the most current goal statements and their objective(s) for the fiscal year. B. Objectives 1. Every organizational component will submit, via chain of command, utilizing SharePoint , objectives for the upcoming fiscal year, which 2.1.0 , Page 2 of 2 assists the agency in achieving goals approved by the Sheriff from the January review. This protocol allows organizational components to budget for resources needed to accomplish the objectives . 2. Each organiz ational component will also submit to SharePoint, via chain of command, objectives for two fiscal years beyond the upcoming one. These objectives should continue anticipated progress made by the previous year’s objectives. These objectives will be review ed, deleted if outdated, or modified and submitted as outlined in paragraph A. 3. Any objective not completed during a fiscal year will automatically be carried over to the following fiscal year unless the organizational component requests the objective be moved to another fiscal year or deleted. This request will be made to the Division Commander via chain of command. 4. At the end of each fiscal year quarter (December, March, June, September), each organizational component will update the status for each of their objectives utilizing SharePoint, via chain of command to Research and Development. 5. Research and Development will maintain a file of all objectives. By November 1 of each year, they will provide access to the entire agency utilizing SharePoint. They will also publish a quarterly and annual report reflecting the status of each objective and the completion rate of each organizational component.
