Oakland Police Department Communications Section Communications Section Policy and Procedure C-06 Date: 25 OCT 12 Index as: Cable Television Viewing DAKLAND mim The purpose of this directive is to set forth Communication Section policy regarding the viewing of programs on the Section's cable television in the Complaint Unit. I. II. VIEWING OF PROGRAMS ON CABLE TELEVISION A. B. C. D. Viewing of television programs during other than national or local emergencies or the use of any personal entertainment device is a privilege. Television viewing or the use of any personal entertainment device is strictly forbidden in the Dispatch/Service Unit. See Communications Section Policy/Procedures C-01, Use of DVD- CD, Cell Phones, & Electronic Devices. Those channels whose programming may contain material that the City considers inappropriate in the workplace shall be blocked including the following programs: Talk shows in general, Jerry Springer and like-others in particular, QVC or any other shopping program, MTV or VH1, or any program or movie that contains nudity or other material that may be offensive to an employee. If there is any violation of these stipulations, the television will be restricted to CNN only. The television will be set at closed caption only. Personnel shall not attach any additional equipment to the television such as a VCR or DVD player. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES A. B. Supervisors are specifically charged with maintaining the quality and delivery of emergency services. Any non-work related activity which interferes with providing service shall be immediately discontinued. Supervisors will ensure that no employee shall be made to feel uncomfortable by being "forced" to watch any television program that may contain material that is offensive to an employee or may be construed as sexual, racial, or religious harassment or disparagement of others.
