I. BODY ORNAMENTATION General Order #70 Effective: 08/31/2023 CFA APPROVED: CHIEF CARLOS NORIEGA POLICY It is the policy of the Department to ensure that all employees present a professional appearance while on duty that reflects a positive image of the North Bay Village Police Department. DEFINITIONS Body Modification - The deliberate altering of the human anatomy or human physical appearance. Body Ornamentation - Includes but is not limited to tattoos, brands, body mutilation, and body and tongue piercing. Body ornamentation does not include the normal piercing of the lower ear lobe. Body Piercing – The permanent placement of jewelry through an artificial fistula; sometimes further modified by stretching. Cicatrization - is the process of wound healing to produce scar tissue. Dental Ornamentation - Includes decorative veneers or caps with metallic-colored coverings such as gold, platinum, or similar colors. Dental ornamentation also includes letters, jewels, and designs affixed to teeth. Scarification – is the act of scratching, etching, burning/branding, or superficially cutting designs, pictures, or words into the skin as a permanent body modification. Visible - Easily seen while wearing the standard issued short sleeve uniform shirt, short sleeve dress/casual shirt, or short pants, while standing in an upright position, and also includes being visible through uniform clothing.
