I. MUTUAL AID General Order #63 Effective: 11/14/2023 CFA 14.01 APPROVED: CHIEF CARLOS NORIEGA POLICY The proper handling of calls for the citizens of North Bay Village can, in certain instances, require cooperation between the North Bay Village Police Department and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. This includes agencies that have concurrent jurisdiction as well as those which might be called on to assist in times of emergency. This cooperative effort requires that specific guidelines be set regarding agency responsibilities as well as the terms and procedures relating to any mutual aid agreements. It shall be the policy of the Department to provide its officers with the aforementioned guidelines and procedures so that a high level of cooperation exists between the North Bay Village Police Department and any other involved agency. In addition, this policy shall ensure that the citizenry of North Bay Village receives the most efficient and effective law enforcement possible. DEFINITIONS Concurrent Jurisdiction - Having equal jurisdiction or authority. Emergency Situation – An actual or potential condition that poses an immediate threat to life or property. In the context of mutual aid, it means a situation that exceeds the capability of a local agency to counteract successfully. Mutual Aid – An exchange of services, personnel, and/or equipment between law enforcement agencies during times of emergency.
