I. NORTH BAY VILLAGE POLICE DEPARTMENT INTERVIEWS General Order #33 Effective: 01/29/2021 CFA Revised: 01/17/2024 APPROVED: CHIEF CARLOS NORIEGA POLICY All persons defined as an Arrestee, Detainee, Person of Interest, Subject or Suspect shall not be left unattended at any time, in any location, for any reason. All such persons shall be under constant direct supervision by a Sworn Law Enforcement Officer when an interview is conducted. DEFINITIONS ARRESTEE - person arrested and in the custody of a Law Enforcement Officer or Agency. DETAINEE - person in the custody/care/control of a Law Enforcement Officer or Agency. INTERVIEW ROOM - a room in a police agency used to interview victims, witnesses, subjects, and detainees. The North Bay Village Police Department does not have an Interview Room. PERSON of INTEREST - person who may have been involved in a crime and about whom more information is sought. SUBJECT - person who has engaged in activity that law enforcement has identified as being within the scope of a criminal act/investigation. SUSPECT - person believed to be involved in the commission of a crime(s) that has not been charged and arrested. VICTIM - an individual who suffers direct or threatened physical, emotional, or financial harm because of a crime. WITNESS - a person who saw or heard a crime take place or that may have important information about a crime or the suspect/subject.
