MOUNTA IN VIEW POLICE DEPARTM ENT OPERATIONAL SERVICES UNIT TRAINING AND INFORMATION BULLETIN PAGE 1 OF 2 CONFIDENTIAL • FOR LAW ENFORCEMEN T USE ONLY 2023 DATE: May 18, 2023 BULLETIN NUMBER: 23-06 SUBJECT: Change to Accident, Non -Vehicular Response INFORMATION: This bulletin will alter the procedure for MVPD respon se and document ation of Accident, Non -Vehicular calls for service . Full investigations are no longer required. Officers will still re spond to these calls but will only complete reports whe n officers provide medical aid or when a criminal violation is identified. When a criminal violation is identified , the call type co de should be changed to reflect the proper criminal statute. No fault or cause should be included in the CAD notes for Accident, Non -Vehicular calls for service. St .Clair Approved by: Chief Bosel Accident, Non-Vehicular Definition Responsibili ty Documentation A non-vehicular accident with injury or property damage where City liability may attach, or A significant non-vehicle injury accident where po lice assistance or first aid is provided. Classify incidents with insignificant injury as Servic e Miscellaneous. • Request Fire/EMS, as appropriate and provide first aid, if needed. • Document first aid provided or any refusal of first aid. • Photograph any injury, if possible. • Investigate whether a crime has occurred • If no crime has occurred, no report is necessary • Notify the City Department (Public Works, Parks, etc.) responsible for the public property where the incident occurred. If a criminal violation is identified • RIMS, Investigation, with a type code change to the proper criminal statute Where medical aid is rendered by Police: • RIMS. Report Format. All other Accident, Non - Vehicular Incidents • CAD notes and provide involved parties with an Incident Number ***No Fault or Cause should be included in the CAD notes***
