SUBJECT: San Mateo County She riff’s Office Caltrain Services
INFORMATION:
The following information was provided to the Santa Clara County Police Chiefs
related to the services the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office provide s via contract to the
Caltrain service corridor . This information is to assist when questions arise related to
call for service on Caltrain property and trains.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Transit Police Bureau will:
• Investigate all Caltrain train related accidents (train vs. vehicle), and/or Caltrain
suicides/trespasser strikes occurring in Santa Clara County
• Investigate all assaults on conductors and assaults by conductors occurring on trains in
Santa Clara County
• Investigate only the following misdemeanor crime types that occur in the stations, right-
of-ways, platforms, and on trains: missing persons, lost property, and all bicycle the fts.
All other crimes will be the responsibility of the local agency
• Conduct parking enforcement of Caltrain parking areas but crimes occurring in the
parking areas will be the responsibility of the local agency

Due to Federal reporting requirements, all reports completed by allied agencies shall be
routed to sheriffs_transitpolice@smcgov.org or faxed to 650.622.8041.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Transit Police Bureau Sergeants will be the
liaison for obtaining rail video footage and can be reached at
sheriffs_transitpolice@smcgov.org or 650.622.8049.
