OUNTAIN VIEW 2020 POLICE MOUNTAIN VIEW POLICE DEPARTMENT SPECIAL SERVICES SECTION TRAINING AND INFORMATION BULLETIN PAGE 1 OF 1 DATE: March 27, 2020 BULLETIN NUMBER: 20-07 SUBJECT: Procedure for Donning and Doffing Personal Protective Equipment INFORMATION: Background: This document provides the sequence for putting on (donning) and removing (doffing) your personal protective equipment. It is important to follow the steps completely to prevent contamination. Please complete pre-shift inspections to ensure you have all of the required personal protective equipment. The inspection also ensures that the personal protective equipment is not worn or damaged. Please request a replacement immediately if your personal protective equipment is damaged or missing. Dan Frohlich CONFIDENTIAL FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT USE ONLY Mountain View Police Department Sequence for Putting on (donning) Personal Protective Equipment Pre-Shift/Pre-Event Tasks Inventory and inspect all gear for wear & damage. Confirm you have a respirator (gas mask and N-95) Are the edges clean? Are the plugs tight? Is the Filter properly secured? Confirm you have 1 Protective Cover-all suit and the ankle and wrist elastics still tight? Confirm you have 2 pairs of rubber gloves? Confirm you have 1 pair of slip-on rubber boots (replaces your patrol boots)? Confirm you have 1 pair of safety glasses? Confirm you have a roll of tape? Sequence for Putting on (donning) Personal Protective Equipment: Tape: Remove the roll of tape and pre-cut approximately 14-16 pieces of tape that are 12 inches long Create a tab by folding some of the tape back on itself Remove sharp objects from your person Put on Inner Ballistic Vest if Vest Carrier is not Worn on Duty Protective Cover-all Suit: Put on Protective Coverall/Suit ensuring you fully cover your torso from neck; arms to end of wrists; legs down to ankle Pull the zipper closed and use a strip of tape over the zipper to ensure it does not open up Rubber Boots: Pull the elastic-cuffs over the outside of the boot Use a strip of tape to tape the boots to the suit Allow for sufficient hip & torso movement: Squat down, raise arms, bend elbows & point them upwards, and make fists Use a strip of tape to tape the boots to the suit Put on outer Ballistic Vest Carrier if Normally Worn on Duty Put on Duty Belt Put on Respiratory Protection and check fit/seal. Put on safety glasses Tape Suit Hood to Respiratory Protection Tape front of collar Mountain View Police Department Sequence for Putting on (donning) Personal Protective Equipment Put on Inner Gloves (Latex) Pull the suit's elastic sleeve cuff over the inner glove Allow for sufficient arm movement: raise arm, bend elbow & point it upwards, make a fist Tape inner gloves to elastic-sleeve-cuff Put on Outer Gloves: Outer Glove sleeves go outside the suit-sleeve Allow for sufficient arm movement. Raise arm, bend elbow & point it upwards, make a fist Tape outer glove to suit-sleeve Put on Reflective Vest (if needed) Put on Helmet (if needed) Final Inspection Look for any exposed skin Look for suit creases & tape bridges at taping points Check your range of motion: arms, squatting, turning side to side. ULTITEC Coverall Donning Instruction Select appropriate coverall and read User Instruction. Remove shoes and secure trousers into socks. Step into legs of coverall and place coverall over safety boots. Zip up coverall to chin and ensure hood fits tightly to face. 5 Seal storm flap with adhesive tape, if any (Applicable for Type 3 and Type 4). Pull coverall towards arms and shoulders. Pull zipper halfway up. Put on face mask (or respirator) and goggles. Pull hood over as head coverings. Cover sleeves over gloves. Stretch to ensure coverall fits appropriately for ease of work movement and optimum protection. Attention 1. DO NOT reuse. 2. To comply with CE Type 5/6 and EN 1073-2, all openings such as wrists, ankles, neck, etc., should be securely taped.
