MOUNTAIN 2020 POLICE VIEW MOUNTAIN View Police DEPARTMENT NEIGHBORHOOD AND EVENT SERVICES UNIT TRAINING AND INFORMATION BULLETIN DATE: February 1, 2020 BULLETIN NUMBER: 20-02 SUBJECT: Corona Virus PAGE 1 OF 2 INFORMATION: Santa Clara County Public Health announced there is one confirmed case of Novel Coronavirus in Santa Clara County. As such, the Santa Clara County EMS Agency has put into effect call screening measures through all six 9-1-1 EMD dispatch centers and Mountain View communications is one of those six. The call screening measures went into effect this morning and the announcement from County EMS is attached. Following the recommendation of the County EMS Medical Director, Mountain View Dispatchers will ask key questions of callers who are reporting specific symptoms in order to identify suspected cases of 2019 nCoV. From an EMS perspective, a suspicious case would be a person with fever and respiratory symptoms (e.g. cough, shortness of breath) who has traveled from China in the previous 14 days. If a suspicious case of nCoV is identified during 911 call processing, MVPD Dispatchers will advise responding personnel of "Positive Travel History". This advisement will prepare MVPD personnel to don appropriate PPE prior to patient contact. Police personnel responding to these calls shall minimally use a P95 mask (Personal Protective Equipment or PPE). These masks can be found in the uniform closet near our evidence room. The 2019 Novel Coronavirus (nCoV) causes febrile respiratory illness that in some cases can progress to pneumonia. It is believed to be transmitted by respiratory droplets with an incubation period of up to 14 days. Until more is known about the biology, infectivity, and the clinical course of the viral disease, the CDC is recommending both droplet and contact precautions when caring for a symptomatic patient with a relevant travel or exposure history. The Department of Public Health confirmed the first case of Coronavirus in Santa Clara County. Here are the facts: The adult male patient recently traveled to Wuhan, China The patient was not ill during travel, but developed flu like symptoms at home The patient was seen at a local hospital, but was not sick enough to require hospitalization The patient is stable and is self-isolating at home The Santa Clara County Department of Public Health is following up with all individuals who had close contact with the patient. They are being evaluated for their risk of infection and monitored for symptoms.
