DEFENSIVE TACTICS IN HOUSE TRAINING

The course will provide the trainee with Arrest and Control training The trainee will develop the necessary tactical
knowledge and skills to safely and effectively arrest and control a suspect.
The course consists of a hands-on/practical skills arrest and control training for in-service
officers. The training may be presented in a 4, 6, 8, 10, or 18 hour format allowing for flexibility based upon specific
agency or trainee group needs, and as long as the minimum topics are contained within each format independently.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The trainee will:
Demonstrate knowledge of their individual Department Arrest and Control Policy.
Demonstrate knowledge of the importance of mental and physical conditioning as it relates to effective arrest and
control techniques.
Demonstrate a minimum standard of arrest and control skills with every technique and exercise, to include:
Judgment and Decision Making
Officer Safety
Body Balance, Stance and Movement
Searching/Handcuffing Techniques
Control Holds/Takedowns
De-escalation, Verbal Commands
Effectiveness under Stress Conditions
Minimum standards of performance shall be tested by an instructor observing the trainee during their
performance of each technique and exercise. If the trainee does not meet minimum standards, as established
by the presenter, remediation will be provided until the standard is met.

Apply the outside handcuff to the suspect's wrist

Double lock before transporting the suspect
Practice handcuffing 3 times from right and left side
Handcuffing/ Kneeing Position
Lecture:
Utilized for moderate to high risk arrest
This technique restricts the suspect's mobility
Generally the approach is made with a cover officer
If the suspect resists the officer has the option to engage or disengage
Although the prone position mobility is less than that of a kneeling position, we can move the suspect back to
us and remain in a covered position.
