I. PURPOSE:
Statistical information indicates that a large percentage of motor vehicle crashes involve persons who are
driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or other impairing substances.
This standard operating procedure (SOP) provides guidelines and defines responsibilities for traffic
enforcement and traffic crash investigations involving DUI.
