Police Department Policy

SOP #162 - PERSONNEL EARLY INTERVENTION SYSTEM

Miami Beach Police Department

Policy Text
I. Personnel Database A. The Department has established procedures that will allow for the proactive review of all employees’ activities to determine the appropriateness, or inappropriateness, of such activities and to identify the proper intervention or remedial efforts, if deemed necessary. [35.1.9] B. The Department strives to ensure that all employees have an equal opportunity to meet or exceed the Department’s vision, values and mission. The Personnel Database is a function of Department supervisors and the Internal Affairs Unit (IA) intended to serve as a means to both assist with and ensure employee accountability. The Department will also provide protection to employees when they act within the dictates of law and policy from unwarranted accusations. C. The Personnel Database looks to provide a holistic and systematic review of all employee’s actions based on current patterns of documented, collected information including, but not limited to: complaints received, Supervisor’s Reports of Response to Resistance, reprimands or other forms of discipline and the thresholds outlined in this SOP. [35.1.9a,b] D. The Personnel Database is not a component of the disciplinary process. Rather, it is intended to be advisory in nature and to identify both positive and negative employee performance, actions and practices. This review should result in a reduction of subsequent disciplinary actions as well as the number of citizen complaints.
