Miami Beach Police Department

Policy Text
DEFINITIONS: LOJACK - Is a multi-component system for assisting law enforcement personnel in identifying, tracking, locating and recovering stolen vehicles. The operation of the system, which consists of three major components: the LoJack Unit vehicle transponder which is purchased by the vehicle owner and installed by trained LoJack personnel; the Police Tracking Computer (PTC) which consists of a radio receiver with directional antenna array, Doppler signal processor, micro-processor-based computer and a controllable display and the Florida Activation System (FAS) which is installed at the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (D.H.S.M.V.) in Tallahassee with transmitters strategically located around the state. A stolen vehicle entry into the FCIC/NCIC system for a LoJack equipped vehicle will cause the LoJack transponder to be activated.
