SOP #053 - RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION

Miami Beach Police Department

Policy Text
POLICY: The Department is committed in its goal to achieve and maintain a diverse organization, with an ethnic, racial and gender composition in approximate proportion to the makeup of the available workforce in the Department’s service community of Miami Beach. To this end, the recruitment procedures of the Department in cooperation with the HRD are designed to attract the most qualified individuals without regard to race, sex, color, age, religion, sexual orientation, gender, political affiliation, national origin, ethnic background, cultural group, economic status, individuals with disabilities or any other legally protected status or other identifiable group. The recruitment procedures are designed to ensure that medical considerations are isolated at the end of the selection process so applicants may keep personal medical information including possible disabilities private until the final stage of the selection process. The Department thereby avoids misconceptions that could bias the selection process and it allows the applicant to know if the medical information was the basis for the decision not to hire. The Department is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer and adheres to all applicable laws regarding the recruitment and retention of all employees, sworn and civilian. [31.2.1]
