DEFINITIONS: APPROPRIATE EMPLOYEES - Department employees whose job classification entails duties likely to require their providing emergency or routine services to individuals with disabilities. PERSON WITH A DISABILITY - A person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, has a history of a disability or is regarded as having such an impairment. This includes any person who provides care for a person with a disability. QUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL - An adult or child, with or without a disability, who meets the essential eligibility requirements for receipt of services, or participation in programs or activities provided by a public entity. REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION - Includes making existing facilities readily accessible to, and usable to, disabled employees, job restructuring, such as part-time or modified work schedules, reassignment to a vacant position; acquisition or modification of equipment, appropriate modification of examinations, training materials, or policies providing sign language interpreters, transporting a witness, suspect or detainee and other similar accommodations.
