DEFINITIONS:
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT - A dedicated, specialized task or particular function within
the Operations Division area of responsibility. Specialized assignments include K-9
Unit, Marine Patrol Unit and the Motorcycle Unit.
SPECIALIZED UNIT - A unit or section within the Department which performs a
dedicated, specialized task as its main function outside of the Patrol Division’s areas of
responsibilities. Specialized units include Backgrounds Section, Criminal Investigations
Division, Information Resources Unit, Internal Affairs Unit, Media Relations, Off-Duty
Section, Professional Standards Unit, Property Management Unit, and the Training
Section.
