KISSIMMEE POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDER General Order 325 – Automated External Defibrillators Page 1 of 2 TITLE: AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS 325 EFFECTIVE: 07/01/2015 REVISED: 10/24/2025 SCOPE : ALL EMPLOYEES REVIEW AUTHORITY: SUPPORT SERVICES DIVISION CAPTAIN CFA STANDARDS: N/A 325.01 General Provisions 325.04 Inspections 325.02 Training Procedures 325.05 Medical Oversight 325.03 Use of the AED Policy: The Kissimmee Police Department shall provide aid in the event of cardiac arrest through the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) according to the guidelines set forth by the American Heart Association. 325.01 General Provisions: AED devices shall be assigned to Officers and Community Service Officers, priority shall be given to Patrol Officers, and placed in strategic locations of police facilities. AED devices shall be visually inspected to determine if the unit is in working order. Inoperable devices shall be removed from service and delivered to the AED Coordinator . AED devices placed in Department vehicles shall be secured in the front passenger area or secured in the trunk to minimize risk to the operator during accidents. 325.02 Training Procedures: The Training Unit and the AED Coordinator shall be responsible for initial training and re -certifi cation in CPR. Documentation of training shall be forwarded to and kept on file with the Department’s Training Unit. Only employees trained in CPR and the use of the AED are authorized to use the AED. 325.03 Use of the Automated External Defibrillator: Officers assigned an AED shall respond to potential cardiac arrests in a safe and expeditious manner. Upon arrival, officers shall remove the AED from their vehicle and take the device to the patient when practical. If it is determined a victim is experienci ng cardiac arrest, the AED protocol shall be initiated. If an AED is utilized, it shall be noted in the incident report. Additionally, the AED Event Summary Form shall be completed and forwa rded to the AED Coordinator. The AED Coordinator shall review the form and file it for future reference. The AED shall also be forwarded to the Training Unit so the data may be downloaded. The downloaded information shall be forwarded to the AED Coordinat or. Following a use of the AED, the AED Coordinator shall inspect the device. KISSIMMEE POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDER General Order 325 – Automated External Defibrillators Page 2 of 2 325.04 Inspections: The AED Coordinator or designee shall conduct an annual inspection of the AED devices within the police facilities and ensure all supplies, including the CPR mask, are present. All supervisors shall inspect AED’s assigned to employees during vehicle inspections and ensure all supplies, including the CPR mask, are present in the AED cases. 325.05 Medical Oversight : The oversight for the Kissimmee Police Depa rtment’s AED program shall be provided by the Osceola County Medical Director .
