KISSIMMEE POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDER General Order 210 – Soft Body Armor Page 1 of 2 TITLE: SOFT BODY ARMOR 210 EFFECTIVE: 07/15/2015 REVISED: 09/26/2025 SCOPE : ALL EMPLOYEES REVIEW AUTHORITY: PATROL DIVISION CAPTAIN CFA STANDARDS: 14.10M (A-C) 210.01 Procedures 210.02 Care and Maintenance 210.03 Repair and Replacement Policy: Body armor provides a minimum Level II protection, but is not a substitute for the observance of standardized safety procedures. The purpose of this policy is to provide Kissimmee Police Officers with guidelines for the proper use and care of body armor. A ll sworn employees shall wear their Department issued protective body armor as outlined below. 210.01 Procedures: [CFA 14.10M – A] The Department shall provide each sworn employee with soft body armor . The wearing of soft body armor, under the uniform, shall be mandatory for all sworn employees, which include on duty and off duty employment, unless exempt as follows: a. The sworn employee is working in an undercover capacity and the wearing of the body armor could compromise the employee; b. Any senior staff and sworn employee wearing plain clothes, but they must have it immediately available ; and/or c. Otherwise authorized by the Chief of Police. Sworn employees are required to wear the body armor when engaged in pre -planned, high -risk activities, such as: search warrants, tactical situations, felony apprehensions, or at the direction of a supervisor. [CFA 14.10M – C] Officers ha ve the option of wearing soft body armor underneath a Class A or Class B uniform shirt or inside of an outer vest carrier. Community Service Officers (CSO) assigned to patrol duties have the option to wear soft body armor. If the CSO chooses to wear soft body armor, they shall make a request via chain of command to the Deputy Chief. Once approved, it shall be mandatory for them to wear while on - duty in uniform. Reserve Officers shall be issued soft body armor and are required to wear it while in uniform . KISSIMMEE POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDER General Order 210 – Soft Body Armor Page 2 of 2 Outer Vest Carriers designed to be worn over clothing shall be issued to specialized units and are permitted if the situation dictates. 210.02 Care and Maintenance: All employees shall be held accountable for the proper care and maintenance of the so ft body armor. All employees are required to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations which shall be provided to them at time of issue. 210.03 Repair and Replacement: Employees shall advise their immediate supervisor if the soft body armor needs repair and replacement. Body armor shall be replaced as per the stated warranty. [CFA 14.10M – B] When it is determined that an employee needs soft body armor repaired or replaced, they will complete a Requisition Form, and send it via chain of command to the Quartermaster.
