DETENTIONS CANINE UNIT TRAINING Frequent training is necessary to maintain an optimal level of performance by the canine teams. This training is just as important for the handler as it is for the canine. The Detentions Canine Unit will operate using the POST recommended minimum of 16 hours of documented training each month. Canine teams shall: • Successfully complete initial certification training; • Be evaluated by a POST-trained evaluator prior to initial deployment; • Demonstrate detection proficiency; • Receive a minimum of 16 hours of training each month; • Be evaluated at least once annually by a POST-trained evaluator approved by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office; • Not deploy
