PURPOSE
To establish a policy for the Kern County Sheriff’s Office to use, manage, store, and retrieve data
captured on body-worn cameras (BWC’s).
Body Worn Camera (BWC) systems are intended to assist members of the Kern County Sheriff’s
Office in the performance of their duties by providing an audio and/or video record of law
enforcement related encounters. BWC’s are useful in documenting citizen encounters, enhancing
the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to review probable cause for arrest(s), reviewing interactions with
members of the public, and use as evidence for investigative and prosecutorial purposes.
BWC’s are an effective means by which to provide an enhanced perspective related to the public’s
perception of law enforcement professiona
