1 Kern County Sheriff’s Office Policies and Procedures TITLE: Body Worn Cameras NO: J-3600 APPROVED: Donny Youngblood, Sheriff-Coroner EFFECTIVE: February 5, 2015 REVIEWED: 9/20/2024 REVISED: 9/20/2024 UPDATED: 09/20/2024 PURPOSE To establish a policy for the Kern County Sheriff’s Office to use, manage, store, and retrieve data captured on body-worn cameras (BWC’s). Body Worn Camera (BWC) systems are intended to assist members of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office in the performance of their duties by providing an audio and/or video record of law enforcement related encounters. BWC’s are useful in documenting citizen encounters, enhancing the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to review probable cause for arrest(s), reviewing interactions with members of the public, and use as evidence for investigative and prosecutorial purposes.
