Kern County Sheriff’s Office Policies and Procedures TITLE: CIVIL CLAIMS NO: J-1100 APPROVED: Donny Youngblood, Sheriff-Coroner EFFECTIVE: August 1, 1990 REVIEWED: 6/1/2018 REVISED: 4/1/1996 UPDATED: 6/1/2018 J-1100-1 POLICY Personnel employed by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office will not encourage claims against the County of Kern or the Sheriff’s Office. Further, Sheriff’s personnel will not express to the public, opinions or comments regarding the validity, content, size or settlement of claims or pending litigation. PROCEDURE Any member who receives a request for information from any person regarding filing a civil claim against the Sheriff’s Office or the County of Kern will provide the following:  Claims must generally be filed within specified time limits; o Within six (6) months after the accrual of the cause of a claim relating to a death, injury to a person, injury to personal property, or growing crops; o Within one (1) year after the accrual of the cause
