Page 1 of 3 KERN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE Detentions Bureau Policies and Procedures TITLE: ORTHOPEDIC OR PROSTHETIC APPLIANCES H-900 EFFECTIVE: REVIEWED: REVISED: UPDATED: July 11, 1994 07-11-24 07-11-24 APPROVED BY: REFERENCE: Detentions Bureau Chief Deputy Cindy Cisneros Title 15, Section 1207, C.C.R.; Penal Code Section 2656 POLICY To provide for the health and safety of incarcerated persons who need orthopedic or prosthetic appliances, incarcerated people who possess such an appliance may keep it while in custody. However, if the shift supervisor deems that the appliance is a threat to the security of the facility or an immediate risk to the safety of any person, the appliance may be confiscated. Incarcerated persons with an orthopedic or prosthetic appliance may be housed in a housing unit set aside for this purpose. Facility medical staff may issue an orthopedic or prosthetic appliance to an incarcerated person in lieu of their personally owned appliance.
